Creating a Classroom Web Site6. Plan out your complete web site from start to finish. Begin with the welcome page and decide on the number of additional pages you will need. I would recommend staying small (2-3 pages) to start. Maintaining the classroom web site is a time consuming and important part of this project. 7. Search for graphics and collect digital photographs of activities and events in the classroom. These add a personal touch and give ownership to the site. When posting digital images of students or students' work, it is imperative to follow your school district's information technology acceptable use guidelines. My own district requires a parent signature at the beginning of the year to release student names, photographs or examples of individual student work. Be sure to pay close attention to this particular area so that your web site is always a positive product. 8. When you have completed your web site, hold a "grand opening" with your classes. Send out notices to parents in student folders and publish a short article in the local newspaper with the site address. Encourage both parents and students to visit the site regularly. To do this, you may want to include a monthly challenge in the form of a logic puzzle or problem of the month to solve. I've included my own classroom web site and other public school classroom web sites here for your enjoyment. You may want to stop by the guestbooks and give us your comments. http://challenge2000ams.homestead.com http://www.indianhillselementary.net/cla... http://www.highland.madison.k12.il.us/te... I hope you'll use the new year as an opportunity to start a classroom web site project. Good luck in your web building endeavors, and as always, feel free to comment on this week's article here at Suite101.com in the discussion area.
