A First Technology ExperienceWhat's always amazing to my students is that technology does have a history. As is human nature, we take for granted the technological advances without considering the beginnings. When I teach my introductory Internet unit, the students in my class are amazed to learn that email capabilities were available in the 70s, and that the first network was created in California by the Department of Defense to ensure communication in the event of an emergency. Even though my first experiences with technology were not the most enjoyable, I'm glad I continued to give technology a chance. I can't imagine my classroom without word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and the other multimedia technology available in the 21st century.
