programmers. Our entire life is made of varying levels of excellence. Deal with it. Instead of expending all your energy pointing out what is wrong, do what is right. Complete your project to the best of your ability. Show that company what a GOOD technical writer is and make them want more.

Show Don’t Tell

A technical writer is a communicator. You have to be able to extract valuable information from piles of data (text, electronic, or verbal formats) and manipulate that information by presenting it in a way that is easy to understand and use. Show your client the kind of technical writer you are by performing your job well. Complete your project on time and within budget. Go the extra mile by doing additional research to anticipate questions from users.

The best thing you can do for the technical writers that follow you is to give them a great example of what technical writing really is. Earn respect, by showing respect.
