FrameMaker, eHelp’s RoboHelp, Solutionsoft’s HelpBreeze, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
The list goes on and on. You may already have experience using one or more of
these or similar tools. That’s great. Now learn the others. Have a working
knowledge of at least two types of every kind of tool, from word processing to
online help authoring, including basic HTML. Trust me, it’ll make the
difference between a good technical writer and a great technical writer.
Starting your career as a good technical writer means working your way up from the bottom. That means you’ll probably enter the technical writing field as a beginning writer. – entry level. That’s okay. Take this opportunity to learn from others. Learn what to do and learn what not to do. Watch and learn. Write, and write, and write. Then, when it’s your turn, you show them what a great technical writer you are and how much you’ve learned. |
