Speech Building Kit for Beginners


+Look to print material -Record information on each source on a bibliography card* (Students are given a handout of print and electronic bibliography card forms. Then they are given a practice worksheet of three bibliography cards.) -Take notes that include a variety of support materials* (Students are given a practice worksheet for three note cards using a predetermined print source - this semester I used a newspaper article.) -Organize your note cards* STEP 6 - Determine your introduction and purpose statement STEP 7 - Create a rough draft of your outline from your audience goal and your note cards in the proper form (Students are given a handout on standard formal outline rules and a practice worksheet of three outlines to unscramble.) STEP 8 - Run through your speech with the outline STEP 9 - Add material or reorganize material if needed STEP 10 - Create a final draft of the outline* STEP 11 - Write your final bibliography* (Students are given a handout for their research folder and a practice worksheet.) STEP 12 - Using the outline, create your speaker cards. These are shorter in information than the outline. STEP 13 - Practice the speech with the speaker cards at least three times using your visual aid. STEP 14 - Give the speech the day you are scheduled.
