AOL Kids Channel

AOL offers so many different features it can be very difficult to figure out where to start. As an adult the realms are even bigger but for the kids it can at least be more fun.

One of the first things to look for in the AOL features are the channels. In AOL 7.0 they are located in the left side of the window on the bottom row of the browser bar. There is a little box that will say Hide Channels or Show Channels.

If the channels are not automatically showing click on Show Channels. Once the channels are showing browse down through the list and look for Kids Only. Click on the selection and up pops the Kids Only Channel.

You'll notice it's quite full of some really neat stuff for kids. Shoot, for that matter, it's full of neat stuff for parents too.

You'll see Time For Kids, which I highly recommend for school age kids. It helps keep them up with current events in a way that kids can understand. It will also help them be able to ask questions so they can get a better understanding of news events that might not know how to ask about.

You will also see a wonderful service that can really come in handy. It's the Homework Helper. During the summer there are fun educational activities to help keep the kids sharp. There is also a Dictionary, a Calculator, an Encyclopedia and a Thesarus. Probably the best help of all is the Tutoring Room. With the click of the button a kid can find a chat room based on the subject they are working on and usually find a teacher online who can help answer their questions. If there isn't a teacher online at the time they can post the question on the Homework Boards and get an answer. As a parent who has found herself in the middle of a homework nightmare this is an excellent little place to bookmark.

Of course this Kids Only Channel also offers a Search feature that can be helpful to kids also in addition to Games, Music, TV & Movies, Fashion & Health, Make Stuff, News & Sports and Pets & Animals sections that are as helpful and fun as the Homework Helper is.

For the younger children there is an area called K.O. Jr.. You'll find links to Dora, The Explorer, Elmo and Zoe from Sesame Street and a Music Zone. Each area has coloring pages, games and fun stuff to do.
