How I Turned An Interest Into An Internet Product I Could Sell

accelerated at a fast rate of knots. I still made mistakes (plenty), but I didn't feel scared, helpless or frustrated. Nor did I ring Chris. I was CONFIDENT that I could work it out on my own . . . and I usually did. The Undo button worked overtime and so did I - I was so excited! My CONFIDENCE grew and grew. By this time, I had also started work as a "temp" and was putting what I had learned into practice in the real world. I was now convinced that CONFIDENCE is the key to learning a new computer skill and, as usual, I wanted to share this discovery with others. Impulsively, I put a Microsoft Word training advertisement in the local paper without thinking about how my prospective pupils would get that CONFIDENCE. After much thought, I decided that my prospective pupils must get a thrill out of what they achieved in their first 1-hour lesson. My first pupil sat in the computer chair AND controlled the mouse (no zap, zap training for her!) I asked her to move her mouse slowly over each tool on the Formatting Toolbar and read the text box that appeared below each. I, then, showed her how to type a simple letter using these tools. She couldn't believe that she had typed a letter within the first lesson. She was thrilled and eager to learn more. Then, a neighbour asked me to teach her how to touch type! She had been learning from a thick manual for 5 weeks and hadn't even typed the letter "g"! She was bored, frustrated and about to give up. OK, I thought, she too must get the thrill of achievement FAST! I split the keyboard in two and came up with a quirky sentence to remember the middle row and, then, quirky association words for the top and bottom rows. Within 35 minutes, she was not only typing the letter "g", but words like stewardesses (the longest word in the dictionary using the left side of the keyboard). She too was thrilled and eager to learn more! I started to teach touch typing at home as well as Microsoft Word. My touch typing pupils were saying things like "This is so fast AND easy!" Why don't you sell your typing method? But how? Why not the internet? I rather liked this idea but realised that I would have to learn another
