I know that I love my crafts and especially my tatting. And I really love sharing my crafts with my fellow crafters and friends and family. But there is something else we can do with our crafts that I think will give all of us the feeling of the true joy of sharing. We can share our gifts for charity. There are many great organizations which you can donate to. But the only one that I know of that accepts tatting is Newborns in Need. Their web site is http://www.newbornsinneed.org/.
Newborns in Need is an all-volunteer organization that makes and donates baby gowns, blankets, and other essential baby items to hospitals, homeless shelters and other organizations that provide for premature and newborn infants. All items are donated completely free of any charge. They provide patterns for baby gowns, hats, blankets and tatted baby bonnets. What also appealled to me is the fact that they donate burial gowns for infants. It is not pleasant, but it is a fact that infants die. I believe that the grieving family has more than enough on their minds than to worry about getting something to bury their child in. I am also planning on tatting edging to be placed on the burial gowns. I do not sew well, but Newborns in Need with give the tatted edging to someone who can sew it onto a gown.
