Strangely Gardening

Just imagine if these plants were first introduced to the early gardeners as ornamentals. It was some time before the English could be persuaded that they could eat the potatoes that Sir Walter Raleigh bought back from the Americas. But it didn't take them so long to pick the leaves of the tobacco plant, dry them out and roll the leaves tightly and then stick them into their mouths and set fire to them. As a smoker, I wished they had only decided to grow them as very pretty ornamentals! Please be patient downloading the photos.
