GARDEN OF DREAMS

Finally, in between these activities, "Big Pond Cinderella" and the "Three Ugly Sisters" were created. I still could not grow Lotus [too cold] but not a day passes, when I am at "Kibbenjelok", that I do not stand and watch the ducks swimming and diving and the native wood ducks sun baking on the banks or the Tasmanian native hens teaching their chicks how to swim. Every year two swallows arrive in the same week, having journeyed from the other side of the world, and amuse me by dancing and swooping over the water, no doubt a courtship ritual. Kees and I were past courtship dances, after all, we were fifty and sixty years old when we started our last big adventure together, but the creation of our gardens was made with love, which was only surpassed by the excitement and love of rearing four beautiful children. So, over these crammed full years of our later life, Kees and I have shared many happy moments, amongst the times of great anxiety and drama. We have busied ourselves in the creation of a beautiful thing, sharing the toil, the contentment, the anxiety and the sense of fulfilment. We have learned to respect nature and garden organically, to withstand disappointments and to slowly understand and accept the inevitable. Physical disabilities are now entering our life, no longer will we be able to ignore the passage of time. How trite it is to write, "All good things must come to an end" but how true it will be.
