K is for - Knopwood. Rev. Robert ('Bobby') Knopwood was a Chaplain who arrived in Van Diemens Land (the old name for Tasmania) in 1804. He was a well known character in the southern Clarence districts, renowned for his writings and his novel approach to spelling- and life life. Knopwood's Tavern in Hobart was named after him. K is for - koala There are no wild koalas in Tasmania, but you can see them at the wild life park at Mole Creek. K is for - kookaburra Kookaburras, otherwise known as "laughing kookaburras", "laughing jackass" or "kookies" are a relative of the kingfisher. Some of them have a few blue feathers, but are mostly brownish. Well known for their loud laughing call, kookies have bright eyes, big beaks and a cheeky manner. They're really quite popular.
