There we are... Hello? "I don't know that I remember much," says Shari doubtfully, but she adds that she's been thinking back... as Mum to three children, it might be interesting to know how her childhood compares with theirs! Shari says; "I was born in Hobart, and I know Mum and Dad came down from Nabageena to get me on a plane. I know Mum and Dad put their name down to adopt someone because they had six boys and wanted a girl. The adoption people used to try to match up the children with the family, but it wasn't very long and Mum and Dad had a phone call saying there was a girl for them. I know the next thing the agency said to them was; 'But, she's got red hair.' I don't know if that was because redheads were sort of unpopular, or because it was so different from the rest of the family. Probably that, but they didn't care. I know they had to fly from Smithon airport to Hobart and bring me back. When I was little, I apparently used to play with a dog called Wee Tex. He used to follow me everywhere, but I don't remember that. Dad used to call out "Here, Tex!" I was only about two, and I used to say "Wee, Tex!" I think I was about three or four when we moved to Moriarty. I don't remember the first house at Moriarty, but it was up on a hill. Sometimes I'm unsure whether I remember things or if it's what I've been told. I do know the first time I went to Kindergarten I used to scream and scream and cry and cry, because I was shy. I was a really shy child, and Mum says I used to hide behind her legs. You wouldn't think so now! When I started school, I used to hate fractions and I hated my times table. I liked schiool in general, though. It was a small school at Moriarty, still is. There were only about fifty people. It was sort of very personalised, where as now most of the schools are big. I remember we used to climb through the hedge, a really long hedge, and we had a track running right through that hedge from one end to the other. I don't think we were really meant to do it, but we all did.
