Ally Plans a Trip

Hi there! You've just caught me planning a trip. No, nothing very adventurous, and this time it's not even in Tasmania. Now, now, before you tell me I'm straying off-topic just listen to my reasoning. I'm off to visit a friend in Sydney, but I'll be going there with a Tasmanian perspective, which I'll share with you when I get back... What's that? You want to come *too*? Well... why not? We'll just see if the airline has an extra seat on the flight I'm taking. If not, you'll have to scrunch up small and climb into my cabin-baggage. Lucky you! They do have a seat to spare, so hurry up and do your packing. We'll be gone only three days, so don't bring too much. What to wear in Sydney? Oh, it might seem a bit posher than Tasmania, but it might also be more casual. It depends where you go. When we hit the inner city you'll see more extreme fashions, and a much wider pool of ethnic types. You'll also find a lot less elbow room. What do I mean by that? It's easy! In Tasmania we have a small population so we have plenty of elbow room. Walk along the footpath in Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Bridport or Burnie, and people will step aside to give you right of way. You can walk for an hour and never brush against anyone at all. No, no, we're not unfriendly, we just like to have our own personal space, so of course we offer that courtesy to others. We do it because we can. Right-o, we've booked our flight, and we'll be leaving from Launceston Airport. We could also have used Hobart, Devonport or Burnie Airports (though the Burnie one is really at Wynyard), but Launceston is the most appropriate this time. We'll be flying to Melbourne, then changing planes and flying on to Sydney. The whole trip will take about three hours, two in the air, and another one in between flights. Oh, and of course we need to figure in the bus ride to Launceston Airport and the train ride from the Domestic Terminal to Central Station in Sydney. Back to the packing and planning. I advise you to bring a pair of shoes that will be comfortable for a lot of walking. Since we'll be relying on public transport, you won't want to run the risk of blisters. I suggest flatties or solid sandals, but make sure you also bring some socks.
