Who will remember the Anzacs
Only the few remaining now They cannot forget.
Who will remember the Anzacs The clear-eyed boys long gone? Swept by the winds of horror To where they did not belong? Who will remember the Anzacs? Their sweethearts and their wives Now fading into history At the evening of their lives.
Who will remember the Anzacs? After nearly ninety years Their names are rarely spoken And long-dried are the tears So who will remember the Anzacs? To give the future warning? That was the thought that troubled me As I walked out this morning.
Then as I stood by the cenotaph The crowds were gathered round The brass band played for all of them The service stilled the town The diggers in their eighties Marched along the street Led by all our Anzacs On silent tramping feet The youngsters from Korea And many another war Led Reservists in their twenties Who have never left our shore
Behind them came the children Teens and under tens So who will remember the Anzacs? Oh, we remember them! And though they've gone to glory Through nearly ninety years Though names are seldom spoken And long-dry are the tears The Anzacs may be reassured That we're still standing free And every April 25th We keep their anniversary So who will remember the Anzacs When the last has gone to his rest? Australians will remember them For we will not forget. http://www.aussie-info.com/identity/days... http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/mode... http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/aus_...
