If you're looking to add to your collection, start with a second deck to augment your learning, or even to purchase your first deck, buying online might be the way to go. The advantages of buying Tarot cards online are the same as any type of online shopping: - Cost comparisons Obviously there are disadvantages. What you see may not be what you get, you do have to pay shipping costs, and, unless a site accepts checks, you often have to have a credit card. You might want to purchase online if you fall into one or more of these categories: - You already know which deck you want to purchase. If you don't know which deck to purchase, you might feel more comfortable shopping in stores where you can see the decks. (Regardless if you buy online or not, you may find the resources listed in the Review section in this article helpful for your search.) However, if you already know some decks might want, shopping online can be done anytime of day or night, wearing pj's, and can save paying this summer's high gas prices while going from store to store. - You are aware of security issues about purchasing online. If you use a credit card, you want to ensure you use a secure site. If you are asked to send your credit card information through email, make sure to break up the number into two separate emails. That will make it harder to intercept. If you are purchasing through a site that sells used wares, make sure that the deck is a new, shrink wrapped deck. Most sites offer you the ability to ask your seller questions. - You want to save money. Depending on the purpose for your cards, you might be willing to buy a used deck if it is in good condition. For instance, if you are merely collecting, a used deck might be worthwhile. In fact, sometimes it may be the only option when purchasing some rare decks. However, if it is a deck you plan to use, you may not wish to read a deck touched by others. There is sometimes a danger of purchasing a deck with "negative vibes" or a bad feeling on it. There are ways to detoxify such a deck, but why go through that when you can purchase a perfectly good new one? This decision would be based on cost or personal preference. - You are a serious Tarot collector. Online you can find decks that are unpublished, self published, or simply rare.
