One of the questions that is often asked of me is "how do I know which spread to use?" now if you have only read a couple of books and have had very little access to the vast number of spreads that are available then it isn't a problem. You use the one that seems to work the best for you. But, if you have been exposed to books with a vast number of spreads or websites like Tarotspreads.com, it can become a daunting task. In order to help those who are feeling confused, I will list the Criteria I use to pick a spread. Remember this is for picking an already developed spread. If after following this method you still cannot find a spread you like then you might want to consider creating your own.
1. What is the question that needs to be answered? This is probably the most important question you can ask. Spreads are designed to be general or very exact. If you want an exact answer you need an exact question or in this case an exact spread. Tarotspreads.com has a multitude of spreads divided into categories. You can go there and figure out which category your question would fall under. That will give you a list to narrow down from. 2. The second question is how much detail do you need. Do you want to see the trees or the forest? The more detail you want the larger the spread should be. Beginners need to be careful here not to pick to large a spread but this is discussed in the next point. 3. How much experience do you have reading? This will also play a part in the size of the spread you do. The more experience you have the larger the spread can be. That isn't to say that those new to the tarot cannot use larger spreads. The Celtic Cross is the most common spread used by beginners and it works just fine for some and not so fine for others. 4. Does the spread positions give you the information you are looking for? Once you have narrowed it down by topic and size all you need to do is look through the spreads that are left and determine if the position meanings give you the information you need. If not, then you will need to pick a different spread. It's really that simple. Have fun exploring http://www.tarotspreads.com it really is a wonderful resource for tarot spreads. Go To Page: 1
