The Tarot and Emotional Healing

I think by now we all know that the tarot can be used for predicting what might happen in someone's life if their path doesn't change. I think we also understand that it can be used as a tool for meditation, spiritual enlightenment and even a look at our purpose in this world. But, what we seldom talk about is the emotional base behind the tarot.

The Tarot has long been a source of great beauty and despair. It brings to light a cosmic view of all humanity. It holds within it a look at our triumphs and our defeats. But, more than that it holds the answers that our souls seek. For every person out there who carries a deep seeded emotional pain, the tarot can be a link to healing that pain. A simple reading can show us what the issue is we are not dealing with, how best to deal with it, what it is meant to teach us, and ultimately even why we were meant to suffer these pains. In understanding emotional pains that seem to have no real point or purpose truly do and those answers can be found by asking the tarot the right questions we can begin to understand how the tarot can play a roll in our lives even if we do not believe in looking into the future.

It becomes obvious when you think about it this way why some therapists would use the tarot in their sessions especially with people who have difficulty seeing their own actions as contributors to their situations. The following is a tarot spread you might find handy when looking at your own emotional pain. I developed this spread to help me deal with some hidden emotional issues that I have apparently been avoiding for a while.

I have never put much stock in location of cards and any exact design. To me the important thing is just the meaning of the card positions not the shape those positions make. So you can lay these out in a straight line if you like or just develop your own design using these position meanings. Since it is a five-card spread a pentagram would be a perfect shape or even a circle.

Card 1 What emotional issue am I dealing with at the moment? Card 2 what did I do to bring this into my life Card 3 what do I need to do to heal myself of this pain
