Solution to The Case of the Missing Links

Here is the solution to last month's mini-mystery, The Case of The Missing Links.

Karen was going home and saw that an ambulance and police cars were in front of her apartment building. She wondered what was happening. Someone must have been hurt or killed because the ambulance was there.

(1) When Karen asked "What's going on?" nobody responded to her. Why? Didn't they see or hear her?

To begin with, people were so preoccupied with what was happening, that they may not have seen or heard Karen. In this kind of situation, people are curious as to what was happening around them.

(2) The crime happened in her apartment. She saw a body lying on the floor. Why? Who was the person? How did the person get into her apartment?

The person was in Karen's apartment because she wanted to meet Karen. The apartment manager let her inside thinking she was Karen.

(3) The shock came when Karen noticed the body looked like her. Why? Who was this person? Was Karen dead and her spirit looking at herself? Did she have a twin she didn't know about?

Finally, Karen noticed the person looked like her. Karen was alive. She was seeing another person who looked like her. Karen had a twin whom she didn't know about. The twin was given away. Her mother and father couldn't afford to keep both girls.

(4) The ambulance attendants covered the person's head and then stopped at stared at Karen? Why was the person's head covered? Was the person dead? Why did they stop and stare at Karen? Could they see her? What about other people? Why couldn't other people see her?

This is where part of the mistakes were in the story. First of all, the person was still alive. Her head shouldn't have been covered up unless she was dead. The ambulance attendants realized something was strange when they saw Karen. They knew the two people looked alike. The other people were too busy to notice Karen.

(5) After the body was placed into the ambulance, the driver sped away with the sirens blowing? Why? If the person was dead, why would the driver drive away fast and with the sirens blowing?

The drive sped away with the sirens blowing because they needed to get the woman to the hospital as soon as possible.

(6) Karen entered her apartment and began thinking about what happened. She wondered why nobody noticed her or talked to her. She wondered if she had a twin or who that person was.
