Remembering the true meaning of Christmas

1. There are suddenly more people in need; 2. There are more children who would enjoy a new toy or new clothes; 3. There are more people who would like to sit down to a good meal; 4. There are more people who would like a kind word said to them.

We tend to make the mistake of wrapping up every emotion and good will action we can think of into a single season of celebration "because it's Christmas." Yet when it's over, it's back to business as usual. The magic dust dissipates and we're again left with our hectic lives and little room for common courtesies and pleasantries.

December 25 is simply another day on the calendar. It's how we look at it and what we associate with it that makes all the difference. The "reason for the season" should be remembered during Christmas, but the lessons that babe in a manger gave us shouldn't be forgotten the rest of the year. If only we could keep the lesson and sustain it.

How different, and wonderful, the world would truly be.
