Addiction Behavior Identified (3)The last I will discuss here, from the book is being judgmental. That is something I deal with daily if not hourly. I find myself judging all those around me and myself by an impossible standard. Nothing is ever right. Here, I am being rigid. “When we are rigid, we cannot be flexible and ‘go with the flow’; when we are judgmental, become rigid in ourselves, with ourselves and with our way of dealing with the world.” I am also being very self-righteous. “...as if we are totally virtuous, moral, and ethical.” Neither of these traits leave one an “avenue to open-mindedness or change.” You can check out Schaef’s most recent works here. A quote about her most recent work, Living In Process “What is process? It is the way of doing, not what is done. It is the tone of voice, not what is said. It is living life in three dimensions, from the inside, instead of trying to control it from the outside. It is a living, moving, evolving energy . . . a shift in our perception of reality...the interconnectedness of all things in the nonlinear motion of the universe. It is deeper than thought, more concrete than concept, more fluid than facts." She has also authored a number of daily meditation books that you can sample There are tapes available where she discusses some of her ideas. "This system in which we live functions as an active addict. I used to believe that this system encouraged addictions, but that's not enough...this system demands addictions: in order to be able to tolerate this system you have to be addicted." Being a Contributing Editor here for the past 20 months has enriched my life a number of ways. 1)I learned about the internet up close and personal. 2)I got to say "I have a website! (Then of course I would go on to say I edited a page at Suite101.) 3)I got to explore recovery and all that means to me in a variety of ways. I would like to leave you with this site which hasn’t got anything to do with recovery...or does it?
