Personal Sites related to Recovery

As I travel the information highway looking to educate and entertain myself I bookmark personal sites that touch me in some way. Many of these I have put on my links page.

The Thinking Person's Guide to Sobriety by Bert Pluymen supports the notion that not all alcoholics are skid row bums.

""The traditional view of alcoholism is of a person who drinks alcohol daily, abuses it regularly, and has few periods of sobriety. By contrast, the truth about alcoholism is that many alcoholics abuse alcohol between intervals of sobriety. These men and women are quite successful at work, and their friends and work associates often fail to suspect they suffer from alcoholism. Many abuse alcohol on weekends and attempt to use weekdays as a time of recovery and sobriety. They function so well that mentioning the word alcoholic or alcoholism would be regarded as offensive. This sobriety guide is dedicated to them."

Bert struggled "silently" with his drinking problem while twice being named one of the "Best Lawyers in America." He has written a book (which the site promotes) and hosts "Recovery Today" on talk-radio. Past radio programs can be heard on his site.

Steps, Staggers, Lurches, and Lunges offers a variety of addiction related information. You will find various definitions of alcoholism along with ADHD information. There is a variety of 12 step resources along with different views of addiction treatment issues.

At BJ's AA Recovery Page she celebrates "the freedom I have found in AA!" Here, she tells her story and shares her progress through the 12 steps. Check out her Poetry Page and Lots of Misc. to find some personal inspiration for yourself. Check out her Crisis page to read about her near miss with relapse and finding herself again.

When you go toA Way Out you are greeted with this MIE warning message: "To show others precisely how we have recovered is the main purpose of this SITE. WARNING: Using these pages can lead to a Spiritual awakening and cause you to recover from a hopeless state of mind and body." Bart has put together a guide for working the AA steps with the Big Book of alcoholics anonymous. It takes one through the book with quotes, questions and prayers. He has also made available a lot of the original writings from the founders of AA. If you are needing some guidance in the way of identifying Resentments this would be a good place to go.
