The Centre for Recovery is a "premier" site based in the United Kingdom offering information and advice for drug and alcohol abuse. Here I found answers to common questions about drugs along with pages focused on teens.
I liked what I found on the Living Drug Free pages. Here you can look at developing "some emotional skills that can improve the quality of our lives." Step by step one can look at what our feelings are, talking about them, why to even bother about them and some examples of healthy ways to deal with difficult situations. The Teen Pages can be personalized through the magic of java. Once you are past the Wizard, you find plain and simple talk about drugs and drug use from a teenagers point of view. At day-by-day.org you will find more straight talk written for teens. The Site Host, "is herself a recovering alcoholic/addict, the sister of alcoholic brothers, the daughter of alcoholic parents, the mother of a teenage drug abuser, she has a degree in Drugs/Alcohol, and has even seen addiction from the side of law enforcement as a deputy sheriff for 4 years in Idaho." Here I found a link to an interesting theory about why adolescents coming from "good" homes still end up in trouble and abusing substances. The Nurture Assumption and Adolescent Addiction theory made a lot of sense to me. Day by Day is searchable and offers a fun link to a Sober Heartbeats. When I checked, I had 136,826,755 sober heartbeats since my last drink. At Alcohol and Drug Abuse.com you can sign up for a free newsletter, Principles: Addiction & Recovery Tips & Talks. The site offers "Straightforward, practical information for the alcohol abuser, drug abuser, substance abuser, alcoholic, addict and codependent." The site is easy to navigate and does cover a lot of ground. Start with the Use, Abuse, Addiction page. Speaking of sites focused on teenagers, at Peace Incorporated I found a site dedicated to creating Peace on a number of different fronts. It is the first time I have seen a connection made between creating peace and stopping substance abuse. Substance Abuse News and Resource Center has the latest breaking news about a variety of substance abuse issues, with a focus on adolescents and families. Under the Resources tab, there are links to funding, prevention, public policy, community, government and treatment information. Go To Page: 1 2
