Have you read your newspaper lately?


Preparing yourself for a journalism career is not easy. You need to get a lot of experience and you need a lot of skill. Have you ever tried this technique: Reading your city newspaper?

You can learn a lot from reading your city's newspaper. You can observe how the reports write, report, quote, etc. You can observe how the newspaper do their layouts. Basically, you can learn how the entire journalism buisness works just by reading your paper!

What? You think your newspaper isn't very good? Even better! You can learn what NOT to do! You think that the articles are slanted? Well, make sure that none of your articles are slanted. You think the layouts are aweful? Make sure none of those layouts show up in your school newspaper. If your paper makes a million mistakes, you can learn a million things from those mistakes.

For the next few weeks, I'm going to talk about the different aspects of the daily newspaper. Hey, if you want to be a journalist, you got to know what you're working with. Until next time, remember to read your newspaper daily!
