Every day, newspapers are becoming more digital. Even the smallest papers are online.
A staple of every school is the newspaper. What if your school newspaper could be online? Well, it can be done. This article will show you step by step.
You cannot publish anything on the Web without getting Web space. Most ISPs (such as American Online and AT&T World Net) have web space varying from 2-10 MBs. If you don't have such an ISP or your school doesn't offer any space, check out these well-known free webspace providers:
Geocities-www.geocities.com If you don't like any of these, there are a lot more. Go to Yahoo! (www.yahoo.com) and type in "free home pages" in the search box. 2. Figure out what content you want. Most people think that newspaper websites are simply the newspaper online. This is not true in most cases. Some papers only provide the important events from their paper. Some provide their entire paper plus other things not offered in the print version. Talk to your newspaper staff about what things you want in an online version of your newspaper. Full-type or main event? Other online exclusives? Think of all the posibilites. 3. Create! You can create your webpage with the editors that free web site pages provide or you can get a professional program such as Adobe Page Mill or Microsoft Front Page 2000. If you are very good at HTML, you can just use Windows Notepad and type in the HTML. Be aware of your designs and make sure it complements rather than controls the flow of your page. 4. Publish. When you're finished with your webpage, upload the pages into your web provider's server and get the adress for the homepage and send it to all your classmates. VoilĂ ! Your school newspaper is now on the information highway! It really is that easy. As you begin to understand publishing Web pages, you can start getting creative and geting an awesome published page! If your school paper is online, and you think you have a great website, please send it to me at Artsphreak@aol.com and I'll add you to my devolping list of "online school papers!" Thanks!
