Summertime is more then a vacation!

Or is it?

Summer is the best time to get all your journalism- related needs done. Not only are you free from other obligations such as school and activites, you are in a more relaxed (not to mention, warmer) atmosphere.

Yes, it seems that there is nothing to do. But if you look closely, there is. Are you in your school newspaper? Well summer is a great idea to think of story ideas and start planning for the paper. By having a head start in the summer, you can have a jump start when school starts.

Another way to have a productive summer is to get pratical experience. During the summer many organzations run journalism workshops. At these workshops, you can fine-tune your writing skils or even learn new aspects in journalism such as radio, TV, and photography. These workshops can last from anywhere to 1 week to 2 months.

Internships are another great way to get pratical experience in the summmer. Internships give you the opportunity to use your skils in real life. The newspaper also benefits from your new talent and perspective. The more internships you have, the better chance you have of getting a real job.

As you can see, summer is more than relaxing and getting a tan. Go out and do something. I expect you guys to say you had the ultimate journalistic experience when fall comes!
