Balancing your time...

Well, I'm ashamed of saying that this column came in exactly one week late. This has inspired me to write a column on a topic that most journalists will have to deal with. Balancing your time. This example of posting my column late is a perfect example of how hard it is to balance your time. But I have a few tipes to help things get done. These are techniques that worked fo me in the last few days, but remember only YOU can determine how to balance your time.

1. Realize that you can't do it all
As much as I like to say that I'm Supergirl and I can do every single thing that needs to be done, I realize in the end that a person can only do so much at a time. Once you realize that, you will dwell on what can be done NOW, rather then every single thing that has to be done.

2. Think of what you have to do.
That may sound like an oxymoron, not to think one thing at a time, then say think of every single thing at a time. But in reality if you don't think of what needs to be done, you might end up forgetting things. Here's my suggestion. Get a marker board or a posterboard. Each day write up what you have to do that day and as you get each thing done, cross it out. Before going to bed, go to the list and see what still needs to be done. Decide if you can do it later, or do it now. This system has worked really well for me at times of chaos!!

3.Do a little at a time.
Rather then waiting at the last minute, do it big things little by little and get the little things done first. That way you don't end up at the heat of the moment and stressed out and end up wasting more time.

This is a short article due to the fact that I must do a million other things. But remember these three things. There are other ways tomanage time, but this is a good start. And Believe me if you want to want to go into Journalism, you gotta learn!

Until my next article (hopefully on time!!), manage your time!
