Summary:

While searching through old stargate files, Dr. Jackson makes a remarkable discovery. He finds film footage of Stargate experiments conducted in 1945 by a post-war team, led by Professor Langford. The film shows how they succeeded in getting the Stargate to work and a young professor, Ernest Littlefield, actually traveled through the wormhole, never to return.

Daniel shares this information with the professor's daughter, Catherine Langford, who oversaw the original Stargate project for years and who was engaged to Littlefield before he disappeared. This comes as a great shock to Catherine who thought Ernest died in accidental explosion. Daniel decides to take Catherine back to the base, much to the disapproval of Gen. Hammond, when they managed to extract from the film the destination that Littlefield went to.

So SG-1, joined by Catherine go through the gate in search of Littlefield. When they arrive they find the now old professor wandering around naked in the ruins of and old alien castle. They also find among the castle ruins a remarkable room that seems to have been the meeting place of four powerful and advanced alien civilizations. The room and the device located at its center capture Dr. Jackson's full attention, which leaves him oblivious the team's mounting problems.

The DHD is severely damaged and a massive storm is approaching the already unsteady ruins that hang on the edge on a cliff. They must come up with a way to reactivate the gate or risk being trapped on the planet forever.

Review:

I personally like this episode for a couple of reasons, one being the return of the character Catherine Langford that was featured in the film. We get to not only learn more about her life prior to the Stargate project, but also what lead her to take up the project in later years.

We also get in the episode another piece to the puzzle with the addition of a four powerful (but at this point unknown) alien races that may be key in helping to defeat the Goa'uld if they can find them again. Either way it is one of the better episode in the first season and one worth watching.
