Summary:
On Planet P3X562, the SG-1 team discovers a vast yellow desert valley full of broken blue crystals. While scouting alone O'Neill manages to find an intact crystal with blue light emanating from it. Upon touching it, he is struck with a hugh electrical force, and while unconscious the crystal duplicates O'Neill. With the real O'Neill knocked out the double returns through the Stargate, with the rest of SG-1. Once back, the double is over come with O'Neill 's emotions and seeks out O'Neill's estranged wife, Sara, and tries to find the couple's son, Charlie, who was killed years earlier.
Meanwhile, the real O'Neill revives on the planet to find himself alone. He returns through the gate to a much confused and shocked SGC. O'Neill and the others soon find out, from the whole crystal that the recovered from the planet, that he has been replicated. Carter and Jackson have discovered that the crystals contain energy beings that can read minds, mimic people and communicate. The beings tell of their tragic encounter with the Goa'ulds and explain that they cannot survive in the Earth's intense electromagnetic field, which means that the O'Neill double is now highly unstable, putting Sara and others in great danger.
The real O'Neill and the rest of SG-1 try to find Sara and the double, as Sara checks what she thinks is Jack into a local hospital emergency room. The double O'Neill has become unstable, admitting bouts of electrical energy, endangering those around him. Once Sg-1 manages to locate Sara and the double they must try to return it back through the gate.
O'Neill confronts the double, who then explains that he had not intentions to harm O'Neill or his family. He was only trying to heal the great pain the O'Neill had and the crystal sensed in him. It was only later when the crystal realized that the great pain O'Neill had was not physical, but emotional; grief from the loss of his son. In a final gesture, the double does just that, taking the form of his son Charlie and giving Sara and Jack something they never had a chance to do, say good-bye to their son.
