There is some important new shaking up the world of Sg-1 these pas couple of months that will change the face of Sg-1 and it future. As many of you know the SCIFI Channel has picked up Stargate Sg-1 for it's sixth and what will be it final season. What many of you might not know is that Sg-1 will be loosing one it's regular cast members and be gaining a new one, as well as some other new surprises in store for the show.

Saying Goodbye - A Major Cast Member Leave:

It seems that in a last minute decision actor Michael Shanks, who plays Dr. Daniel Jackson has opted not to renew his contract and sign on for a sixth season of the show. He will be replaced by a new as yet unnamed character that will be introduced sometime this season to allow for fan adjustment.

Executive Producer Brad Wright is quoted as saying "He's a big person," Wright said. "You'll know him." in reference to the actor to play the new replacement character for Dr. Jackson. He also puts squash on rumors that the Tok'ra symbiote Lantash, who was in the host Martouf (J.R. Bourne) that was killed off in season three will be new regular cast member in a different host. Although the symbiote Lantash does make a return to the series in a new host it will only serve to put finality to the Sam/Martouf/Lantash/Joilanr triangle that has existed for a while.

Don't think that this the last of Michael Shanks that you will ever seen as the beloved fan favorite Dr. Daniel Jackson. His character is not being killed off, but more put into a circumstance that will lead to his leaving and possible reappearance on occasion in season 6 plus he likely to return for the motion picture Stargate II. The full fate of Dr. Jackson will be shown in the second to last episode of season 5 called "Meridian" to air sometime next year.

Spinoff - Stargate: Atlantis:

A new spin-off series is in the works that will expand the already rich universe of Stargate and take it a step further. The working title Atlantis is just a tiny glimpse at what is to come from Executive Producer Brad Wright. Wright is quoted as saying -

"What I'm planning is for Season Six to build towards a climax that actually is a Stargate SG-1 feature film," Wright said. "And that feature film will create the milieu and the necessary elements for a spin-off series."
