Summary:

After safely escaping from both Apophis & the Replicators, Sg-1 takes on the task of helping their friend Teal’c regain his memory/identity after he was brain washed by Apophis. After the S.G.C doctors try and fail to deprogram Teal’c, Sg-1 enlist the help of Teal’c’s long time friend and teacher Bra’tac.

When Bra’tac arrives he informs the S.G.C that Teal’c was lying about not being brainwashed anymore and that the only hope for him was to perform and ancient Jaffa ritual called “The Rites Of Malshuraan”. A ritual which brings a Jaffa to near death so that he may reflect upon his life and re-discover his true path. In order to perform the ritual Bra’tac removes Teal’c symbiote thus leaving him only hours to live.

The Rite of Malshuraan. The "last rites" – Dr. Jackson

During this time Teal’c is placed in the infirmary and strapped to a bed as he is forced to relive his past and contemplate his future. Most of the time his is drifting in and out of conciseness as he fever intensifies and his immune system breaks down. It’s in the time that he beings to see his past days with Bra’tac and his appointment as first prime to Apophis.

You cannot hope to understand the darkness in his heart like I do. – Bra’tac

Bra’tac tells them that the rite will take all night and that they should talk to him even though he is unconscious, he can sense their presence and their words will force him to remember. Through the night each member of Sg-1 take their turn talking to Teal’c and a hope that he will remember his true path before it is too late.

"Words will force him to remember." Without the symbiote, Teal'c "won't be able to resist reason so readily." – Bra’tac

As the night nears the end and Teal’c flashes back to the time when he first met SG-1 and helped free them from the prison on Chulak. Just at that moment Teal’c opens his eyes in a state of disbelief and then suddenly his heart stops. Jack tells a guard to go get Bra’tac and bring him to the infirmary as it is near the end of the ritual and Teal’c is dying. Bra’tac returns and yells at Teal’c to choose his path, to return to life and freedom. All the while Dr. Fraiser insists on replacing Teal’c symbiote so that she can save his life. Reluctantly Bra’tac agrees and allows her to replace his symbiote and administer CPR.
