Stargate Sg-1 Guide : Key Words

Here is a list of common phrase and words used on the show and fan kingdom. These will help a new fan to the show get a leg up on the lingo and universe of sg-1.

Key Show Words :

S.G.C ( Stargate Command Complex ) :
This is the main office and staging ground for all the teams/units that go through the stargate.

SG-1 ( Stargate One ) :
This is the unit number of the main team in the S.G command.

N.O.R.A.D ( North American Aerospace Defense Command ) :
The main floor of the S.G.C is located 28 level underneath the N.O.R.A.D complex , located inside Cheyenne Mt. in Colorado Springs.

Nellis Airforce Base ( Area 51 ) :
This is where all the technology and artifacts that the various S.G teams bring back from different worlds are brought for analysis.

N.I.D :
A secret government agency that try’s to use the technology found by the S.G.C for military and weapons purposes.

Stargate :
The main device used by the S.G.C to travel to different planets. It is a 2-ton metal ring found in Egypt in the 20's. It has 39 glyphs/symbols engraved on it which depict different star constellations in the night sky. Once dialed it activates a wormhole between 2 active gates giving people the ability to travel over great distances to different planets.

Iris :
It is a titanium metal barrier placed on the stargate 3 micrometers from the event horizon or wormhole of the stargate. This is so that if it activated by and off-world source they can be protected from any invasion by any enemy.

G.D.O ( Garage Door Opener ) :
It is a remote device worn on the arm of one of the S.G. team members. It used to send a signal that is a series of numbers that identifies each team. The signal is sent when any team is off world just before they step back through the stargate. This is so that the S.G.C knows it is an authorized personnel and they can open the iris.

D.H.D ( Dial Home Device ) :
A small device used to dial the stargate on different planets. It works much like a telephone with each planet having it's own set of glyphs or symbols. The device contains 39 glyphs on the surface which when touched are used to dial the address of the planet. Each planet contains a series of 6 symbols with the 7th being the point of origin or the planet the person is on.
