Bunny Lake, The Top Filly Pacer of 2001

October 2001, and her year-end money totals saw her eclipse Miss Easy’s record from 1990 ($1,128,956), as the best female single-season money earner ever. Plans call for the speedy soon-to-be four-year-old to race in the Classic Series and the Breeders Crown in 2002.

“Skip and I just love racing and we take John’s opinion very much to heart, so it will be up to him as whether she’ll race or not after her four-year-old season,” Wendy said. “I feel like at this point that she knows the routine and is enjoying her life. She’s certainly given us a lot of thrills and enjoyment and we feel grateful to have her in our lives.”

Wendy’s husband, Skip, an attorney, agrees. “It has absolutely been a dream season,” he said. “I’ve had a very hectic and busy summer, and through all of it has been Bunny Lake. She’s given me thrills that will last a lifetime.”

Wendy said that when the time comes, the Springs plan on breeding Bunny Lake to Western Hanover and Bettor’s Delight.

“We rely on Bruce Brinkerhoff, who picked out Bunny Lake for us, to help us with our stallion selection,” Wendy noted. “We felt that Western Hanover would make a good cross, and since we are New York breeders, we are going to support Bettor’s Delight.” -30-
