Industry Update

Thanks again to Hollywood Bob, who so gracious gives me the inside scoop on what's happening at the Meadowlands, in East Rutherford, New Jersey!

Mark Ford, co-winner of the Glen Garnsey award (with Jim Takter) in 2000 for training excellence, has the reigning Horse of the Year Gallo Blue Chip, who has also been named Sport Eye's Horse of the Year. "We have about $3.8 million on the year so far, so it's been a good one," Ford said. Besides "Gallo," Mark also conditions Masterofhisdomain, who has gotten back most of his $100,000 claiming price for his owners this year, racing tremendously in Chicago. His other top charge, Royal Art is going to Canada for a month and then will return to the Meadowlands, "hopefully for the Aquarius. Gallo Blue Chip is doing fine. I'm going to try a different route with him when he comes back. I plan on racing him a couple of times in Florida before bringing him back up here."

Lohmeyer's Ruffed Ups' Season Finale Ed Lohmeyer has been around top horses before-Landlside, Nuclear Siren, Pacific Fella and Pacific Rocket to name a few-and now he may have one to add to that distinguished list-Ruffed Up. T "I plan on putting him into the Graduate and the Classic series next season. He needs a break now. He raced straight through last winter and did very well. The I gave him three months off around June of this year, and he came back a better horse. I'm hoping to do the same with him now. When I had Pacific Fella, each time I brought him to Florida, he came back a better horse. Hopefully, that can happen with Ruffed Up," commented Lohmeyer, who is currently in Florida training ten babies and eight two and three year olds. Ruffed Up was purchased by Lohmeyer and his connections as a yearling, and has rewarded them with $361,940 back. He took his lifetime mark of 1:50.1 two starts back, and last week saw some very bad luck keep him from any chance or a repeat performance. Lohmeyer continued, "From what I heard, if he had shaken loose he probably would have won again. He's real sharp right now. He's drawn the outside post, but he can work out a trip from there. He's got a chance to be one of the best I've had next year."

Silvermans' Maturing Freshfromthestart He didn't set the world on fire nearly two years (February, 2000) ago when purchased by Milton Cahn and Larry Lefkowitz. But patience has rewarded that duo with a solid performer, a soon to be 5 Year old named Freshfromthestart. Jerry Silverman trains and Richie drives the son of Presidential Ball-Turn The Tide (that's 3 divisional titles and nearly $ million in parentage).
