The Largest Museum Exhibit in the World!History, too, is depicted: stamps celebrate (commemorate) selected historical events from around the world, from the Revolutionary War of the United States to World War II to the founding of cities that have existed for several millennia. People, places, and events scattered throughout recorded history are prominently promoted. Disasters, both natural and manmade, are duly recorded. Births and deaths, marriages and anniversaries, hundreds of other events large and small, are all captured. The history recorded in these small bits of paper reflect who we are, what we are, and how we got to where we are today. Certainly these deserve a "wing" in our museum! People and cultures are also represented in stamp designs, not only the people and culture of today, but large quantities of historical information and archeological data. Another "wing" of our museum becomes filled to capacity! Is this all? Far from it! We'd need a "wing" or two for sports at least. Another one or two would need to be set aside for entertainment and entertainers, from composers and orchestras to music to drama to the theater to movies to television and radio. Achievements in medicine celebrated in stamp designs would offer enough material for several major exhibits, and the same is true for a dozen other areas of endeavor. A "wing" for toys? It's possible! Another for flags, emblems, medals, and awards is almost certain! Truly, just about anything mankind has achieved, has learned, or has experienced eventually shows up in stamp designs. Stamps may not provide the same experience as "being there", but for many of us, it's as close as we can get!
