Seychelles stamps with the additional inscription "Zil Elwannyen Selel" (or similar inscription) were issued for use in the islands of Aldabra, Desroaches, and Farquhar from 1980 until 1992. The inscription literally means "Outer Seychelles". These issues were justified by the Seychelles government as part of a travelling post office program, but was probably mostly philatelic. This wraps up this series on the philatelic evolution of the nations of Africa. For those interested, information was gathered from more than thirty sources for this series, including Scott Stamp Atlas; Scott, Yvert & Tellier, and Stanley Gibbons catalogues; Encyclopedia Britannica (online), Encyclopedia Britannica Atlas, Hammond World Atlas (1924 & 1955 editions), and Encyclopedia Americana; and several history texts. I've tried to provide the most consistent information on each nation from all these various sources. Next month: The break-up of the Ottoman Empire and the birth of modern Middle Eastern nations.
