Silly Mistake

Are you safe? Think you have gotten totally away from your stalker? Think you are too smart to not make a silly mistake like putting your information right in his hands? I sure did. Then, a simple mistake made me terrified for days. The mistake could have had disastrous consequences, but luckily, it looks like my stalker has "gotten over" me.

It started easily enough. I entered into one of the "on-line reunion" sites where you can see where your old school buddies are now. All caught up in the excitement over my ten-year class reunion, I added my name to my year. I also put my email address to be contacted by old friends. I think I was smart enough to not put my address, at least! Well, the reunion came and went and I had fun visiting friends from the old school.

I forgot about the listing until I decided to check out the site to see if anyone else had added. My heart stopped beating for a moment. There it was, my stalker's name. He had graduated from the same school, but I had never stopped to think that he might sign on to that site. If he had purchased one of the premium subscriptions, he would have access to my name and email address. It was a rough few days. I waited for an email from him, but thank goodness it never came. I believe he has lost total interest in me.

Now, why did I tell you this? Well, so that you can learn from my mistake. Do not ever post your address to any site like that, and, if you must put an email address, make sure it is one that can't be traced back to you. Little slip-ups like this can cause big trouble. I am very fortunate that more didn't happen. But, now my stalker knows my married name. I wouldn't have wanted him to have that information either. Be careful what you put on the Internet. With a little common sense (I've ordered some), you can be safe online! Just take the proper precautions and watch what you do. It doesn't take many slip-ups to open yourself up. It is easy to find out information online. With just your phone number, your stalker can get a detailed map to your house. I'm not trying to scare anyone, I just want to bring this knowledge to the forefront of your mind. Take care and stay safe!
