This month we conclude our two-part interview with Kelly. She will share insights on how to develop YOUR passion! Enjoy!

KT: What led you to write for Suite101.com on this topic?

KH: I let my own dreams slide for many years while I tried to fit into a more conventional life. I essentially blocked all my creative outlets and this took an emotional, psychological, and physical toll. I've learned the hard way how important it is to follow your dreams. Because of my own experiences I was interested in learning more and understanding what holds so many of us back from embracing our true calling. I thought I could accomplish this by writing about it. I should say though, I have no training in counseling people and that is not my intention. We all walk our own roads and must make decisions for ourselves. My hope is that I can provide resources, relate some of my own personal experiences and that of others, and identify some techniques that will help people revive their dreams.

KT: How can someone learn to follow his/her passion?

KH: I think when you are ready for it you will find the courage to do it. In my case as I approached middle age I began to take a serious look at how I was spending my time. We never know how much time we have on the earth and I began to wonder why I wasn't spending my time doing what I loved. It didn't make sense to me. Still, I had lots of excuses. I didn't have enough money to quit my job and go out on my own, I couldn't leave the security of it, I wouldn't be able to make a living, and there were already plenty of good writers out there anyway so who would hire a rookie like me? Eventually I just came to the end of the road. I couldn't bear to work in an office any more and I left. That's when things started to turn around for me. I just got to a point where I was ready to turn the page.

KT: What are some resources you recommend?

KH: I recently read a book by Barbara Sher called "It's only too late if you think it's too late: How to create your second life". This is a great book for people who have had their dreams on hold. Sher tells you how to rev it
