Exercising Your Way to Stress ReductionStress. It is a big part of anyone's life, but if you are being stalked - you probably feel more stress than most people. It's frightening to know that someone else has some control over your life. You may start to eat more, to go out less and become more reclusive. It's important to take safety measures, and certainly you don't want to go jogging by yourself on a deserted street, but making sure you get adequate amounts of exercise can help you feel more relaxed and alleviate some of the stress you are feeling. Before you start exercising, you should check with your physician to get a physical. Then, go for it! Pick three cardio-endurance exercises, such as running, walking or rollerblading. You might feel more secure in a gym-type atmosphere where you will be surrounded by people. If so, pick something like the stairmaster, treadmill or stationary bike. Just do something for 20-45 minutes 5-6 times a week to get your heart pumping! You might want to take a kickboxing class for some of your cardiovascular exercise. Although it is not truly a self-defense course, you might feel better knowing some of the moves these classes teach. Many women think that if they lift weights they will look like a male bodybuilder. Happy to tell you that this is NOT the case!!!! Women (without the help of steroids) can not get big like that! BUT every pound of muscle you gain makes you burn calories more efficiently…and for those of you interested in losing weight, this will help! For your first time lifting weights, try to get a personal trainer at your fitness center to show you how to lift safely and effectively. If you are lifting at home, find someone who knows how to lift to help you learn safely! Lifting can be dangerous if you don't learn the proper form. If you are lifting at home, use light weights unless you have a spotter. Another stress reliever is yoga. Yoga is a fun, safe way to relax. You can feel all the tension in your body drain away. The main benefit of exercise beyond stress reduction is that exercise helps keep you mentally sharp. You will be able to feel more focused and alert for danger. Take time to take care of your body. Find ways to take control over any area in your life that you can. You will feel more powerful. Enjoy the moments you can!
