Your Key to Self-Discovery: Interview with Viki Posidis

Finding the key to yourself. We all struggle daily with knowing our "true" selves. How do you break this cycle? I spoke with Suite 101 editor Viki Posidis about this topic. Viki is a writer, editor and energy-healer and has been devoted to self-discovery for the last five years.

KT: Viki, what is self - discovery?

VP: Self discovery is a lifetime journey and commitment to oneself. It is an inner healing process of getting to know who you really are and not who you've been told you are. It's about knowing your every emotion and honoring every aspect of your being. It's also about learning to love who you are, respect who you are and becoming authentically empowered from the inside out. It is a journey of discovery and what you are discovering is your authentic self.

KT: What are the steps on the path to self-discovery?

VP: Each persons journey will be different and unique because we all have different life lessons to learn and different issues to heal within us. If I had to sum up some sort of "steps" for self discovery it would be the following: First, to acknowledge those issues within you that need healing. Second, to embrace and accept those issues wholeheartedly without judgement of yourself. Third, to honor and always respect those issues that seek healing within you and finally, to offer up those issues to God/Higher Power (whatever one believes in) for healing. Meaning, to surrender them to God. Self discovery is difficult if there isn't some connection/belief in a Higher Power.

KT: How can someone develop his/her intuition?

VP: Intuition is like a muscle. If it doesn't get exercised it eventually becomes weaker. Similarly, the more it's "worked out" the stronger it gets. My best advice on developing intuition is to practise using it. For example, try doing small exercises while at home. If the phone rings ask your intuition to tell you who is calling. If your watching a ball game ask you intuition who will win. Then take it a step further and try and get the final scores. Many great business men use intuition when playing the stock market. Your intuition wants to work for you not against. It wants to develope a relationship with you, indeed tries to on a daily basis. We just aren't trained to listen to it. Our intuition can save our lives.

KT: What are some things that a person can do to help heal problems from their past?

VP: First would be to acknowledge the issue. Some things (if very traumatic) our psyches will block from our memory, therefore we can't acknowledge something that we can't remember. The soul is very wise though and will not bring anything to consciousness until it knows that the personality can handle it. If painful memories (such as severe abuse) start to surface, it is best that the individual seek out an experienced psychotherapist. In other instances where a therapist is not needed and the individual has acknowledged
