You've Set a Goal - Now What?"Whether you think you can or think you can't - you're right!" Henry Ford You've set a goal and broken it down into mini-goals. You feel overwhelmed by the number of steps you must take to achieve the goal. You're about ready to quit. BUT DON'T! Take a minute to think about how you'll feel if you don't accomplish what you've set out to do...now think about how you'll feel once you've accomplished the goal. Which scenario feels better? So, what's holding you back? Your ATTITUDE! Eleanor Roosevelt said that no one can make us feel inferior without our consent. The problem of many people with low self-esteem is that they are their own worst critics. No one has to tell them they are doing a bad job, they've already told themselves repeatedly. Whatever you think about becomes your destiny. If you hold thoughts of defeat in your mind, you'll be defeated. If you hold thoughts of success, you will have a much better chance of succeeding. The first thing you should do each morning before getting out of bed is picture yourself achieving your goal. Close your eyes and take a deep breath (don't fall back asleep - you might want to hit "snooze" instead of turning the alarm off!). Picture yourself doing whatever you would be doing if you achieved the goal. For example, if your goal is to own a new car, picture yourself in the car. Smell the new car smell, feel the interior underneath your fingers. Picture the color in your mind. Hear the radio. Use as many of your senses as you can to imprint the picture on your subconscious. You've probably read that your subconscious cannot tell the difference between an actual event and a vividly pictured experience. Take advantage of that fact! Your next step is to get a picture of your goal and place it somewhere where you will see it every day. Go get a picture of the exact color, make, and model of car you want and hang it on your refrigerator. If your goal is to lose weight, cut out a picture of a woman you'd like to look like (and realistically could...if you're 6'2, don't cut out a 5'1 petite woman! Believe me, you won't shrink that much!). Put your face on the body and hang it on your fridge! The whole point of cutting out these pictures and visualizing your goal every morning is to keep the goal foremost in your mind.
