Professional baseball is going straight to Hell. No, no. I'm not talking about the fiery brimstone, eternal burning Hell that you learned about in Sunday School, but rather a modern-day "Look ma, I'm making more money than some small countries" kind of Hell.
Where did it all go wrong? I can remember back to the 80's, when breakdancing and Miami Vice were king, and small market baseball teams could compete for the World Series year-in and year-out. The Kansas City Royals truly were majestic. In the early 90's, the Pittsburgh Pirates could rape and pillage on the baseball diamond with the best of them. Best of all, the New York Yankees were average. That's right; average. Only a handful of teams were out of contention at the start of a season in the 80's and early 90's, and you can chalk that up to mismanagement and god awful trades.
Since professional baseball is going straight to Hell, Armageddon must be just around the corner. Within the next three years, baseball will have another work stoppage. Small market angels will clash with big market devils, and, when the dust settles, professional baseball will be a T.S. Eliot Waste Land. Hell, fans are still boycotting because of the '94 strike. One more strike equals disaster, because in this game, two recent strikes and you're out.
