Alex Rodriguez: The 25-Million Dollar ManThey have hypocritically upped the ante, causing upcoming free agents such as World Series MVP Derek Jeter to salivate over the possibilities awaiting, causing team owners to wonder just how much it will cost to remain competitive. The losers in this game as always will be the fans, because in order to pay multiple millions to players, the prices of tickets and costs at concession stands will continually increase. Tom Hicks may be the one who wrote the check, but ultimately, it's we the people who are paying A-Rod's salary. Can I sensibly blame Alex Rodriguez for getting as much as he could get in return for his services? Certainly not. I certainly would have accepted $25 million dollars to write this article. Do I hold Tom Hicks at fault for offering Rodriguez so much money? Not really. To the highest bidder goes the spoils, and Hicks did what was necessary to put his team above the competition. Last but not least, will I (having volunteered to represent John Q. Public) pay $50 to watch a game from bleacher seats while shelling out $10 for a hotdog? Not even if I get a congratulatory letter from Ed McMahon and a phone call from Regis Philbin.
