On Hiatus BluesThat's it. It's done. The races are now over and all we've left to do is wait until next year. While we're at it, we might as well reminisce about racing years gone by. Heck, take a few moments to just kick back and remember that great race from a few months ago. Come on, you do remember that one now don't you? Either way, if you happen to find yourself as hard up as I am on certain days, and feel you need a little sports car action pick-me-up, then try to avoid the certain stares roommates are bound to give you and slip in your copy of the Grand Prix of Sonoma. Cheesy, I'd admit, but effective. Granted, yours most likely isn't that particular race or even that particular series, but everyone has one. A race caught on tape. That same tape you set to auto-record because there was no way you were going to miss the weekend's 'big race'. You know, it's that same tape you planned to record over later, but couldn't because your favourite team did far better than you or anyone else had ever expected. What? Don't tell me you don't have one? Sure, now you readers are doing one of two things. Either nodding to yourself, knowing full well what I'm talking about (after all, you've got it just as bad as I do!) or thinking I'm certifiably nuts. Whichever, I'll leave that up to you. Everyone has their own way to fill the void left when sports car racing goes on hiatus. I just thought I'd use this time to throw out a few suggestions to those of you who might be feeling the emptiness that I am. Consider doing some of the following (or perhaps just read it for the humour it presents). I've honestly done all of these things at least once. Kick back, close your eyes and remember the race where the team of your choice won. Even if they never made it to the winner's circle, use your vivid imagination. Now they have. Watch old reruns of choice races. Be it on SPEED, EPSN Classics, or a tape of your own, the sounds of the cars alone always make for a good time. Beware, you may wish to look at the results of the race online before you watch. It's never a good thing if your favourite driver spun off the track on the fourth lap never to return.
