The 2003 season for America's oldest, continuously running series is almost over, so a season wrap up is in order. The cars have seen such places as Florida, California, Connecticut, Ohio, Wisconsin, Colorado and Canada, and are now left with just one more place to visit - San Juan, Puerto Rico. If you haven't been following the series, here's what you've missed, if you have, then what follows will refresh your memories.
Grand Prix of St. Petersberg [February 23rd, 2003] For the first race of the season, the cars headed down to St. Petersburg, Florida, along side CART. 21 cars would make the entry list to this race, but only 19 cars ended up qualifying. Of these, Scott Pruett would take his Jaguar XKR to the pole for his first of many appearances on the spot. A major turnaround from last year saw seven of the top nice qualifiers were Jaguars. By the end of the race, Pruett had led nearly every lap, and took the checkered flag, followed by the Mustang driven by Boris Said and the two other Jaguars of Johnny Miller and Paul Gentilozzi. Four cars would fail to finish the race, which saw only two caution periods. Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach [April 13th, 2003] By the time April came along, the series found itself in Long Beach, California, once again along side CART. The second race of the year would bring together 20 cars (only 19 would qualify and end up making the race) and for a second straight time, Scott Pruett found himself sitting in the pole position. By the end of the race, Boris Said had made it to the front of the pack, and was first to take the checkered flag when it was shown. A pack of Jaguars followed Said to the line, starting with Johnny Miller, then Scott Pruett, Paul Gentilozzi and Jorge Diaz, Jr. Ontario More to Discover Victoria Day Trans-Am Weekend [May 18th, 2003] For the third race of the season, the Trans-Am Series made their way across the northern border and into Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. Only 16 cars would end up qualifying at Mosport International Raceway that very cold weekend in May, resulting in Scott Pruett once again on pole (thus making his third pole of the season), followed by four other Jaguar XKRs. Pruett, who lead every lap leading up to the finish, eventually won the race, which only saw one caution period. Jaguars came home once again the dominating force of the weekend, securing five of the top six finishing positions.
