Wisdom Comes In All Sizes

Many people believe that wisdom comes with age, but there are so many children coming into the world today with an abundance of wisdom beyond their years. They are often referred to as indigo children. Some people even believe that they've carried this wisdom with them throughout countless lifetimes and they are now beginning to share it with the rest of the world. This wisdom quite often goes beyond intelligence. It's a knowing that transcends earthly knowledge. These children seem to understand things that most adults will never understand in their entire lifetimes. I had the honor of knowing such a child. For the sake of privacy, I will call her Kelly. I was her nanny from the time she was three and a half until she was five. I knew she was special the first time I met her. She did not carry herself like a normal three year old, nor did she talk like one. When I had conversations with her, I felt as though I was having a discussion with another adult; an adult in a child's body. One time she used a word that I had never heard and I thought it was something she made up. Later that day, though, out of curiosity I looked it up in the dictionary and it was there. Not only did she use the word... she used it correctly. She always seemed to know when something was bothering me. One day she wanted me to go outside with her and watch her swing on her swing. I don't even think she really wanted to swing now that I think back on it. I believe she was just trying to get me out of the house in order to cheer me up. I sat on the deck while she played on her swing, but she wasn't really into the swinging. She was watching me and when my mood didn't change she came over and sat down next to me. Then she put her arm around my shoulders and asked me if I needed to talk about it. I started crying and poured my heart out to her... this four-year-old child. She just listened the entire time, and when I was finished she gave me a hug and told me everything would be okay. Believe it or not, I felt so much better. When I had time to think about what had happened, though, I couldn't believe I had bared my soul to a little kid.
