Dear Friends:
Please excuse my absence for the past few months but my personal life has recently been in state of turmoil. About four months ago I discovered that I am pregnant with our first child. Also my husband had a minor relapse with his cancer. As a couple we have been dealing with treatments, doctors, and of course hospital visits. This has left little time for me to concentrate on the column. However, as hectic as this experience has been it has provided a wonderful spiritual lesson for me. It has provided me a wonderful insight into the human spirit, of love, hope, and faith. After learning that I was pregnant I shared with information with my co-workers and the Veterans at the Veterans' facility where I work. This new entity, although not even in the physical form yet has brought such joy to those that I encounter each day. The residents who experience a bad day, emotionally or related to their illness will brighten up when I mention the baby. Those that refuse to be sociable will accept a hug after our discussion. Please indulge me a little here; I will refer to this beautiful creation as Adam. This will be his middle name when he is born. Adam is already making a difference in the lives that he touches through me. When we visit with the doctors who are treating my husband, Nick I notice more smiles. There is an increase in laughter and the mood is lighter. Basically the atmosphere is jovial and relaxed each time that he goes for treatment or an exam. Even Nick has changed since discovering he was going to be a dad. His priorities have changed; he is more concerned about his child then his illness. Since his cancer is a chronic, manageable disease we have accepted that it will always be a part of our lives. But now Adam gives us hope for a beautiful future. Although Adam has not officially entered the world yet this entity is already making a difference in the lives of the individuals that we touch. As the parents, we know that we are on another spiritual journey. Adam has already blessed many individual's lives; I hope that he will continue to do so as he grows into adulthood. Together as a family we will assist him in the exploration of his spiritual heritage. Personally, I look forward to this new adventure! Go To Page: 1
