RESCUEING HEARTS

In light of the tragedy on September 11, 2001, I would like to suspend from our regular issues to deal with the situation at hand. All of us right now feel a myriad of emotions: vulnerability, anger, sadness and helplessness. The question is what do we do? Take this situation turn it around from victimization into victory. Your location may prevent you from physically being able to help in the situation in New York City and Washington DC, but there are other ways to aid your fellow Americans. The compassion in your heart will guide you in this situation.

By using compassion take the time to listen to others. Communication is the most effective tool to start the healing process. Encourage those around you to express their concerns about the current situation. As the fears and sadness are put in to words they become concrete item which releases the weariness that the individual may be carrying. When you have finished listening with a compassionate heart take some time for yourself. As much as we want to be there for others it is just as important to be there for yourself. During that time speak to someone, or take long walk because although you have been there for someone else you need time to unload all his or her emotions. By being a listener you also take on their energy, their sorrow and confusion. You need time to release to let yourself heal.

Monetary or physical aid may not be possible from where you are but listening is such a small step. Allowing others to voice their concerns aids in the healing process. You may not be able to help on a grand scale but all it takes is one action to be followed by another kind action.

The future is unpredictable at this time. We are all terrified and angry. However if we can take baby steps toward healing time will take care of the rest. Right now we need to rescue each other’s hearts.

God Bless Us All
