Foretelling Playing CardsPlaying cards are magical! That's right, they are. And I am not talking about winning at Blackjack; I am talking about foretelling the future. Today's playing card deck works the same as tarot cards because they are descendants of tarot cards. Playing cards are my tool of choice when I do readings. Since the designs are simpler, intuitive readings come easier. Using tarot cards one needs to interpret the meaning of each card with the aid of a book until you memorize them. The memorizations takes time, a rare commodity in today's society. Too one can go by 'feeling,' but the deisgns are complex and this can lead to mininterpretation. How is it possible to use a simple deck of cards? To begin with, you to know a bit of the tarot card's history. The playing cards descended from the minor arcana. There are 78 cards in the deck; 22 cards in the minor arcana and 56 in the major arcana. From the 56 cards of the major arcana, our playing card deck is known. There are minor differences, however the similarities are strong. Both decks have four suits, ace through ten, followed by the king and queen. Here is where the difference is evident. Instead of 56 cards in the deck, there are 52. This is because the page and knight no longer exist. Some believe the lack is a combination of the page and of the knight. The jury is still out on that one. However, the suits in the minor arcana have changed in design. The wands are now clubs. Cups are now hearts. Swords are now spades. And pentacles are now diamonds. The fool is now the present day joker. The suits have more general meanings. The clubs represent daily activities. Spades representn new beginnings with the consequent endings of something old; a transitions of some type. Of course, diamonds represent wealth, either materialistically or emotionally depending on what one senses during the reading. Those remaining yet to define are the king, the queen and the jack. These characters are defined differently. The jack represents a young simple, perhaps naive male. The king and the queen indicate knowledgeable and mature individuals; perhaps married. As with reading of any type, the details and other specifics are filled in by intuitive information gleaned by the reader. The ace of spades has always been known as the 'death card.' In a sense, it is. If it is interpreted as relating to the physical, then it is the death of the physical body as the Soul of one makes the transition into Spirit. However, it can also indicate, in more cases than not, changes in relationships changes in life situations or changes in jobs. It all depends on the information one receives as one progresses in the reading.
