So, are you psychic?

Often, people ask if you have to be "psychic" to succeed as a ghosthunter. The answer is no. As ghosthunters, we're generally looking for hard evidence of the paranormal.

Oh, it can be useful to be psychic, or use a psychic in your research, because that can save you time identifying "hot spots" where you may have the best chance of gathering evidence.

For example, if you know that people perceive something odd in the back corner of the cemetery, or in the attic of the old house, you may save time by setting up your investigation equipment there, to start.

Psychics often say that "hot spots" seem odd. Or, they may describe the way the energy feels there. Watching a psychic, you may see them extend their hands to get more physical contact with the energy. Or, you may watch a more timid researcher step back suddenly from an area that seems particularly active.

Although we're working in the dark--so to speak--we know that digital cameras work with energy as much as with what we call "visual." So, they tend to have a higher success rate in capturing anomalies in haunted locations. In other words, the haunting produces energy and the digital camera records it in the photograph.

So, if a psychic helps with the investigation, he or she can be a human gauge of perceived energy, and thereby steer the research towards the most fruitful locations at the site.

However, you do not have to have a gift for ESP or any psychic skills, to be a very successful ghost investigator.

In fact, I believe that everyone is "psychic" and it's just a matter of practice to develop these skills, the same as you become better in a sport, or with a musical instrument, with instruction and practice.

There are many psychic tests online. You may enjoy taking them, to see how well you score on them.

The linked psychic test is fun and easy, but does not necessarily prove how psychic you are. What it does is see how well you can predict which card the computer will select at random.

In some cases, psychics score very well with this test. In other cases, they'd do far better if a human was selecting the cards.

It can be helpful to take this test with the right context in mind. You are not trying to read the "mind" of the computer. What you are doing is looking ahead into the future, to see what will happen next. You're using your psychic abilities to see an event less than one second ahead of when you push the button.
