Do I have to clean my voice to practice good vocal hygeine?

throat, jaw, shoulder muscles less tense. Difficulties with muscle tension almost go hand-in-hand with nodule diagnosis.

Most people seen for voice therapy are in therapy for only a few weeks. Vocal hygiene is something that anyone can practice but the hardest thing about it is remembering to actually do it!! I have trouble remembering this too and I have to because I have vocal nodules that leave me with laryngitis at least two times each year and I'm the speech therapist! It's awfully embarrassing to have to call in to say you can't work because you can't talk when you know better; when you are the voice therapist! Hey, sometimes even the professionals forget to cough softly and drink lots of water. Lastly, when all else fails and you sound hoarse and gruff- rest the voice- even if only for a few hours. It's amazing how nice not talking can be sometimes.
